COURSES & DISCOUNTS BELOW:
I am always happy to teach the first class without any commitment to do further classes. After this first class I ask students to either commit to a course or to stop classes.
The minimum course is 6 classes (i.e. 3 two hour classes or 6 one hour classes, etc). Prices can be worked out above. Below are packages with further discounts (two hour classes or longer only), these packages/discounts start from 10 hours of booked classes.
The more hours you book, the cheaper the hourly rate. Weekdays 9-5 are more discounted than evenings and weekends, Classes two hours or longer are also further reduced, as are online classes (rather than in-person classes).
Please wait a moment for the price tables to load if they haven't already...
NB. THESE ARE PROMOTION RATES (with tax included they are very low rates) AND AVAILABLE FOR A VERY LIMITED TIME.
They can be replaced with normal rates any day though any package you have bought will be honoured at the rate you bought it at.
Prices below are for online classes. In-person classes in West Dulwich, London.
Full payment needs to be made in advance in order to get the following discounts. This can be via cash/in person, bank transfer, manual payment into a bank or (the following incur extra fees for the client) Paypal or Al Ansari/Western Union. Cheques not accepted.
Many clients choose to do online lessons (Skype, Facetime, WhatsApp, etc) so that they can take advantage of the weekday hourly rates and save travel time and costs. E.g. take a long lunch break and do a class during the work week.
Weekends are Saturdays and Sundays in the UK. Time Zone GMT.
T & C's below.
After the first class (if students prefer to do a paid trial class before committing) I ask students to commit to a course for several reasons:
1) Life is always busy &, however good your intentions are to improve, unless you commit to a courses, it will be too easy to put off your good intentions to do classes. By committing to a course you are helping yourself achieve your goals
2) If students don't commit to courses, I waste time arranging each class time, checking every payment has come through, reminding students to decide when to book the next class, etc, it complicates my tax records with lots of little payments, etc, and, most importantly, I can't plan my schedule effectively. 3) I only want to teach students who really want to improve -actually wanting to improve is not enough as that is a wish and not an action, they need to be committed to improving which they will do by booking a course. It is not satisfying to teach classes scattered across months and I can't plan lessons or your progress this way -I only want to teach students where I can see their improvements hence a course is needed.
Please note that lesson-preparation time may be charged in addition to the time spent teaching a class. This depends on your requirements and the amount of preparation needed.
This is not charged for most clients learning English as a second language (since I already have courses prepared) but is applicable if I need to prepare a lot for specific requests.
It is also not charged for pronunciation / English 'accent' classes.
As a guideline I will spend at least half an hour preparing each two hour lesson free of charge but additional time will probably be chargeable -especially if you have specific material you want me to prepare (e.g. read and research specific poems, texts, etc).
Research time is charged at the discounted weekday rate (assuming you have given me enough notice so that I can fit it into weekdays).
Please call me to discuss and, if you need heavily tailored lessons, please factor this in when deciding how many hours you want to book (and which discounted course you want to book -see below for more details).
Time Period To Do Courses In, Travel & Policies:
All courses are not refundable. Courses require total commitment and so changing your mind half way through is not an option/is non-refundable. I only want to work with students who are committed to improving in a timely manner.
I am always as flexible as is possible and reasonable.
Obviously life events can happen requiring travel or commitments that were not expected at the time of booking, in this case we can do Skype classes when I am/you are away or fit in more classes either before, or after, my/your travels to complete the course in a timely manner. Course deadlines are necessary as, before I had them, I had some uncommitted students dragging courses on over years -this is also frustrating as I do not see them progress as they should.
If your course is not completed within the time period agreed upon when you booked, (assuming my plans/actions have not caused notable delays in which case I will be extra flexible on this policy), then left-over classes are un-refundable. Since Skype / online classes are almost always an option there is no reason why courses should take any longer, even if you are unable to meet me for in-person classes. English classes and pronunciation classes are especially well suited to Skype/online lessons and, with webcams, there is really very little difference between an in-person class and a Skype class (except you save travel time and costs)!
I reserve the right to travel and this does not affect the no-refund policy since Skype classes are always an option even if I am away. If you would rather not have Skype classes then I will try to work around your preferences however some Skype classes may be necessary in rare cases. If you would rather not do Skype classes (as 95% of my students do when they, or I am away), then flexibility will be required from you re any gaps in teaching periods as Skype classes are the norm for interrupted periods. I don't travel much so this will probably not be relevant.
We will book in set class dates, or at least set a period in which the course needs to be completed, at the time of your booking. If not the time periods listed above apply. Obviously there is some flexibility if either of us cannot make a date but please give me at least 48 hours notice once classes are in my diary -(the more notice the better -I plan weeks in advance and turn away students to keep your time free so please treat my time with respect).
No-shows -i.e: people not turning up to their booked lesson time without notice or prior explanation are will be unlikely to be refunded. Prior explanation needs to be at least 48 hours before. There are a lot of dramatic emergency excuses given which are unlikely to all be credible -students are allowed 1 of these per 10 hour course! Please respect that this is my work and therefore is as important as your work deadlines/commitments re last-minute cancellations. I treat all of my students with care and respect and expect the same treatment in return.
Emergency Rate For One-to-One / Individual Lessons:
The rates above assume that there is no urgent deadline. If you need an urgent, last-minute lesson or day workshop -or need a document to be written on a tight deadline- then the emergency rate applies.( As I will probably have to rearrange my work schedule, and cancel plans, to accommodate it),
This also applies to hours of lesson preparation (or essay preparation, writing, etc) that I will need to do on a tight schedule / with little notice. The amount of reasonable notice obviously depends on the scale of the project, (my schedule) and the amount of notice given.
For example -being asked, with at least 24 hours notice, to prepare a poem to teach during a lesson the next day would not be classed as an emergency (unless I am fully booked that day and need to re-arrange work commitments) but being asked to prepare numerous poems, an essay plan, or read a GCSE/A level/MA/etc, book for a class the next day would be.
To avoid being classified as an emergency -please give me plenty of notice (I have a busy schedule)!
Emergency rate / last-minute requests: GBP £47
Group Lessons & Group Discounts:
I don't organise groups myself however I am happy to teach a group that you have got together.
I also work with schools teaching online group classes.
Rates will be lower for each student if they join a group, (however they will not receive as much personalised feedback or have lessons tailored just to their needs).
Please contact me to discuss and then receive a quote for your group.
Please see the prices on this page/above and then apply the following discounts:
For two people you would have a 10% discount per person and per lesson (so each pays the normal rates for individual classes, including any weekday or course discounts, minus 10% off the total).
For 3 people 15% discount per person
4 people 20% discount per person
5 people 25% discount per person
6 people or more 30% discount per person
10 people or more 35% discount per person.
Please contact me if confused. Please note that these discounts are for pupils I teach at my location, travel & other fees may apply to other locations.
